Here are the top 5 according to Hotel Somont:
1. Dolomites Val Gardena Xtreme Up
The picturesque village of Selva di Val Gardena stands out for its “sporting soul”.
t is in fact a fixed destination for lovers of sport and open air, both in summer and in winter.
After the big success of the edition 2019 also in the winter season 2019/2020, Selva will host an important sporting event: the “Dolomites Val Gardena – Xtreme Up”, a race where the aim is to conquer in the shortest time possible the summit of the Ciampinoi, along the “3” track.
With its 2320 meters lenght and with a difference in height of 720 meters, the track represents a challenge that not anyone can face.
The departure will take place at 6.30 pm, at the Frëina slope in the center of Selva Val Gardena. The participants, armed only with their equipment (snowshoes, touring skis, crampons, etc.) and the desire to win, will have to reach the top station of the Ciampinoi plant.
The award ceremony and the Pasta Party will follow at 9.00 pm at the La Stua après ski bar, where good music and happy atmosphere will make this day unique.

2. Rock the Dolomites 2020
Guests normally discover Dolomites Val Gardena’s romantic and beautiful side. However, locals aren’t all sugar, spice and everything nice, as you’ll discover during the yearly ‘Rock the Dolomites’ music festival which takes place in March 2020 from 21st until 29th.
Rock the Dolomites is a music festival many won’t expect in peaceful Dolomites Val Gardena.
Rock bands from the region will enthuse the audience with their tunes for a whole week.
Instead of folk music and unique sounds you’ll only hear virtuoso guitar riffs, drum solos and passionately sung rock lyrics.
The festival takes place in March when Dolomites Val Gardena is at its most beautiful: covered by snow in front of the huts and the après ski venues, ready to take on the sick tunes of the electric guitar as soon as it’s plugged in. The music festival lasts a good week and features a diverse line-up ranging across different subgenres of rock. Ten bands will perform in different locations surrounded by nature and deliver great vibes.

3. Spring Race Party
Why should skiing and snowboarding only be fun during winter?
Every year, Dolomites Val Gardena invites passionate winter sport athletes in March to the Spring Race Party. This is a very special competition for everyone who would like to have fun during a ski sport event in spring.
The Spring Race Party takes place every year in the second half of March, i.e. that period of time where the first hiking holiday-goers mix with the last ski fanatics. The former can be seen walking around the hiking paths, finally rid of snow, admiring the first blossoms on the Alpine meadows, while the latter use every single available inch of snow to practice their favourite hobby.
Guaranteed fun: You can enjoy peace and quiet in Dolomites Val Gardena all year round. However, the March weekend of the Spring Race is the perfect excuse for organising a terrific party! It’s a fun obstacle challenger that will take skiers from the Seceda meadow right to the centre of Ortisei; here, all the brave and brazen souls who took part will be welcomed by the party of a lifetime.
4. Sellaronda Skimarathon
The Sellaronda is one of the most beautiful skiing carousels in the whole world and is visited every year by countless skiers during the winter season.
Hop into a lift in Dolomites Val Gardena up into the mountains and access the carousel to be rewarded by stunning views and slopes for every skiing level.
And, once a year, the Sellaronda takes on a completely new shape: indeed, normally families and expert skiers would explore the carousel but on this special occasion 1,000 participants will be testing their strength, their stamina and their flexibility as well as their courage during the Sellaronda skiing marathon.
What’s so special about the race anyway: the Sellaronda skiing marathon has a track record spanning 20 years. A group of entrepreneurial and passionate skiers asked themselves if they could complete the Sellaronda at night and, before you know it, the Sellaronda marathon was born.
There were some rules to follow, of course, for example only touring skis would be allowed and the only accepted form of illumination would be the helmet’s torch, as it gives off sparse light. A wish which resulted in one of the most extraordinary ski races.
To this very day, the twinkling stars in the sky and the helmets of the around 1,000 participants are the only sources of light that illuminate the way ahead. Skiers compete in teams of two across 42 km featuring a good 2,800 m elevation gain uphill making this a veritable athletic challenge. Even the dizzying descents of the most famous night-time ski alpine race are legendary. The race starts this year from Corvara.
Can I join? The Sellaronda skiing marathon is also known as ‘the formula 1 of skiing’. Darkness, the extremely motivated skiers and the athletic challenge require outstanding physical fitness, a strong will and plenty of courage. Only those who adapt really well to their surroundings will have the chance to stand on the podium with their partner.
Registrations are limited: If you’re interested in taking part in the Sellaronda skiing marathon you should prepare well for the race and register in time with your partner.
